Tata's next Nexon EV has been spotted for the first time. The test car was heavily covered. It was riding on a flatbed truck, so its underside was in view. The photos show a battery pack and orange power cables. This is the first look at the electric version of the next-generation Nexon. Rushlane published the photos on 17 October 2026. We found no official word from Tata.
What the spy photos show
Look under the car and you can see a battery case beneath the cabin. Orange high-voltage cables run near the front, just behind the front wheel. Orange is the standard colour for EV power cables. That points to an electric test car.
The rest of the car is hidden. Fabric covers the rear doors, the roof and most of the tailgate. The front doors, mirrors and wheel arches show through a patterned wrap. The door handles are the normal pull type. The wheels have five spokes. Another test car seen in September wore Curvv-style wheels, says Rushlane. So the wheels may not be final.
Design clues so far
Earlier test cars were petrol versions. Times of India Auto covered one in September. The new body looks more upright and boxier than today's Nexon. The roofline looks flatter and the tailgate stands straighter. The rear looks less like a coupe. That could give more rear headroom and boot space, but Tata has not confirmed it.
The petrol test car also showed a rear wiper and a small spoiler. Its tail lamps looked like test units, so the final lamps may differ. The EV will need space for its battery. So the floor and cabin layout may change from the petrol car. We will only know when Tata shows the real car.
Battery and range, what we know and do not know
Tata has not said a word about the new battery or range. Everything below is about today's car. The current Nexon.ev has two packs. The 30 kWh pack has a claimed range of 275 km, say Autocar India and 91Wheels. Rushlane lists 325 km, so check this figure before you quote it. The 45 kWh pack claims 489 km.
Tata says the 45 kWh car gives about 350 to 370 km in real use. That is Tata's own C75 test figure. Fast charging from 20 to 80 percent takes about 40 minutes, says Tata. The first owner also gets a lifetime battery warranty on the 45 kWh car.

Some reports guess at the platform. Carlelo expects the EV to use Tata's acti.ev platform, which also sits under the Punch EV and Curvv EV. Autocar India expects the petrol car to use a heavily reworked X1 platform. Tata has confirmed none of this.
Why this new Nexon matters
The Nexon has been on sale since 2017. It had big facelifts in 2020 and 2023, but its shape and base stayed the same. Times of India Auto says the new car will be the first full generation change. The Nexon EV came in 2020 as Tata's first electric passenger car, says Autocar India. Tata calls it India's most sold EV.
Rivals are not standing still. The Mahindra XUV 3XO EV is listed by 91Wheels at ₹13.89 lakh to ₹14.96 lakh. It has a 39.4 kWh battery and a claimed 351 km range. Tata will want the new Nexon EV to stay ahead of cars like this.
Launch date and price
Reports point to 2027. Times of India Auto says the new Nexon will be revealed in 2027. The project is called Garud inside Tata. Carlelo says launch could come around mid-2027.
The EV may come after the petrol car. CarToq says the petrol version will likely arrive first. Autocar India said earlier that it was unclear if Tata would launch them together. Rushlane adds that Tata is expected to launch the Safari EV and the Aeris EV before this car. It calls those dates unconfirmed.
There is no price news yet. Tata has not shown the car, so any number is a guess.
Should you wait for the new Nexon EV?
If you want a small electric SUV today, you do not have to wait. The current Tata Nexon EV has a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating across the line-up, says Tata. ADAS is available on the top 45 kWh trim. Our real-world Nexon EV review covers daily use.
If you can wait a year or more, the new car may bring a roomier cabin and newer tech. But nothing is confirmed. New generations also often cost more. That is only a guess. We will update this story when Tata shares details.
