Toyota's next Fortuner has been spotted again. A new spy photo shows its front and side on a highway in Thailand. The test car is still wrapped in camouflage. Rushlane published the photo on 17 October 2026. Toyota has not announced anything. Reports expect the new Fortuner in India in 2027.
What the new spy photo shows
The front looks upright and wide. A broad mesh grille shows through a gap in the wrap. Tall vertical sections sit on each side of it. The upper grille and the headlamp area form a flat line under the bonnet. The lamps look angular, but the wrap hides their full shape.
Low on the bumper there are horizontal openings near the number plate. From the side the car keeps the Fortuner shape. The bonnet is tall and the cabin is upright. The wheel arches are big and the car has side steps and multi-spoke alloys. The doors, mirrors and rear quarters stay covered. Dark glass hides the cabin, so we still have no look at the interior.
The test car wears the same registration as the car seen from the rear in September, says Rushlane. So it is likely the same prototype. Rushlane also says an ADAS module is visible at the front.
What else to expect
The new Fortuner is said to share its base with the new Hilux. Toyota launched that pickup in India on 28 July 2026, from ₹31.99 lakh. Our Toyota Hilux page has its details. The Indian Hilux has a 12.3-inch screen, seven airbags and a panoramic view monitor, says Toyota.
So the Fortuner may get a bigger screen and a digital driver display. A panoramic sunroof is also expected. Test cars carry ADAS radar and cameras, but Toyota has not said which features India will get. Our earlier ADAS spy report has more on this.
For engines, reports expect the 2.8-litre diesel to stay. The Hilux makes 204 PS and 500 Nm with its automatic. The 2.7-litre petrol may stay too. Autocar India and Carlelo say the diesel could keep its 48V mild-hybrid help. A full hybrid is not confirmed for India. Times of India Auto says hybrids may go to other markets.
When will the new Fortuner launch in India?
No one outside Toyota knows. The dates in reports have moved. Here is what each outlet has said.
| Source | What it says |
|---|---|
| Autocar India, February 2026 | Global reveal in mid-2026, India launch late 2026 or early 2027 |
| Carlelo, July 2026 | Global debut in late 2026, India launch in 2027 |
| Times of India Auto, September 2026 | India launch expected in 2027 |
| Rushlane, October 2026 | Launch expected in 2027 |
| Toyota | No official date or reveal |
The global reveal that Autocar India expected for mid-2026 has not happened. So 2027 looks like the safe guess. Treat any exact date you see online as a rumour.
Why the Fortuner needs a new generation
The current Fortuner has been on sale for nearly a decade, says Autocar India. It has had many updates, but the cabin and tech feel older than newer rivals. A full change is long overdue. That is why every spy photo gets so much attention.
Fortuner price in October 2026
Toyota raised Fortuner prices by up to ₹51,000 this month, say V3Cars and Caronphone. The range is now ₹35.11 lakh to ₹50.97 lakh, ex-showroom. These are some key prices.
| Variant | Ex-showroom price |
|---|---|
| 2.7 petrol automatic 2WD | ₹35.11 lakh |
| 2.8 diesel manual 2WD | ₹35.75 lakh |
| Leader Edition manual 2WD | ₹36.51 lakh |
| 2.8 diesel automatic 2WD | ₹37.99 lakh |
| Leader Edition automatic 2WD | ₹38.72 lakh |
| Legender 2WD automatic | ₹43.35 lakh |
| GR S 4WD automatic | ₹50.97 lakh |
Fortuner Leader Edition
Toyota launched the 2026 Leader Edition on 9 October. Bookings opened on 12 October. It is a 2WD special edition. It has a black grille, a black roof and gloss black alloys. The cabin is black and maroon, with ambient lighting and lit door sills. It also gets folding mirrors and tyre pressure monitoring.
Earlier Leader Editions in 2024 and 2025 were dealer-level options, says Autocar India. This year Toyota has launched it directly. Mechanically it is the same as other 2WD Fortuners. The automatic makes 204 PS and 500 Nm. The manual makes 420 Nm. Our Leader Edition report has the full details.
Should you wait for the new Fortuner?
If you need a Fortuner now, buy the current one. The Toyota Fortuner is a proven SUV. Toyota says it has sold over 3.3 lakh units. If you can wait until 2027, the new one should bring a fresher cabin and ADAS.
Toyota also sells the Fortuner with flexible finance, including up to 7-year plans, says its press release. The standard warranty is 3 years or 1 lakh km. It can be extended to 5 years or 2.2 lakh km. Toyota adds 5 years of free roadside assistance. These terms matter if you plan to keep the car for a long time.
The catch is that nothing is confirmed. New models also tend to cost more. That is our guess and not a Toyota statement. Waiting also means missing today's Leader Edition. We will update this story when Toyota shares real details.
