We now have a date for the new Toyota Fortuner. Toyota South Africa says the SUV will be shown to the world on 1 December 2026. CarMag first ran this news on 19 October. Financial Express has the same date from its own sources. India should get the new Fortuner in 2027. Toyota India has not given an India date yet.

That is why so many people in India are searching for it today. It is the first firm date after months of spy photos.

Is it a fully new Fortuner?

Not quite. Reports say it is a big update. It is not a fully new car. It should keep the same IMV ladder frame below. The new Hilux took the same path. Financial Express says the main body stays, but many outer panels change. So think of it as a big facelift with a new cabin.

The teaser shows only the back. A slim light bar runs across the back door.

What is expected to change

Area What reports expect
Front Upright grille, slimmer headlamps, taller bonnet
Rear New tailgate and full-width LED light bar (seen in teaser)
Cabin Hilux-style dash, 12.3-inch touchscreen, digital driver display (expected)
Safety Toyota Safety Sense ADAS on some variants (expected)
Diesel engine 2.8-litre diesel, likely with 48V mild-hybrid help (expected)
Platform Same IMV ladder frame
India price TBA

Only the date and the back view teaser come from Toyota. The rest is from reports and spy photos. The India car may not get all of it.

When will it come to India?

Reports point to 2027. Financial Express says Toyota will first bring the updated Innova Hycross. The new Fortuner would come after that. No month has been shared.

The Fortuner sells about 3,000 cars a month in India, says Financial Express. But its rivals are getting strong. The new Kia Sorento sold about 1,800 cars in its first full month. The Jeep Meridian, Skoda Kodiaq and VW Tayron are in the fight too.

Buy now or wait?

If you need a big SUV soon, the one on sale now is still a safe buy. The new Leader Edition adds a black look, mood lights and tyre pressure alerts. If you can wait till 2027, the new one should bring a fresh cabin and ADAS. It will likely cost more too. That is our view, not a word from Toyota. We will share full details after the reveal on 1 December.
