Stellantis has told India it will launch twelve Jeep and Citroen products over the next three years. What it has not told India is what a single one of them is called. If a Compass or a Basalt X is on your shortlist, that gap matters more than the headline number. The first of these cars is not due before April 2027, and much of what you will read about specific models is still reporters reading between the lines.
The plan, announced on Thursday, 15 October, is called FaSTLAne 2030. Stellantis will put about ₹4,000 crore of fresh money into India over three years, which it says lifts its total investment here from over ₹11,000 crore to roughly ₹15,000 crore by 2030. Of the twelve products, seven are all-new and five are major upgrades of cars already on sale. Jeep gets five launches and Citroen seven.
The plan in numbers
| Item | What Stellantis has said |
|---|---|
| Fresh investment | About ₹4,000 crore over three years |
| Total India investment | From over ₹11,000 crore to about ₹15,000 crore by 2030 |
| Launches | 12 in three years: 7 all-new, 5 major upgrades |
| Split | Jeep 5, Citroen 7 |
| Segments | B, C and D-segment SUVs, an MPV, an A-segment car, a premium pickup |
| First launch | By April-June 2027 (model not named) |
| Powertrains | Petrol, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, electric; CNG mentioned by the CEO |
| Prices and specs | TBA |
"Our commitment to India will be measured by what we put on the road," Stellantis India CEO Shailesh Hazela said in the company's statement. That is a fair test. Jeep currently sells the Compass, Meridian, Wrangler and Grand Cherokee here. Citroen sells the C3 and its electric version, the Basalt X, the Aircross X and the C5 Aircross. Tianshu Xin, who runs Stellantis' Asia-Pacific operations, called India "a long-term commitment for us, not just a volume chase."
Who gets which car
The official statement lists segments, not brands. Hazela filled in the rest for PTI, and TOI Auto reported the upgrade split:
| Brand | On sale today | New models (per Hazela to PTI) | Upgrades |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jeep | Compass, Meridian, Wrangler, Grand Cherokee | B-segment SUV, C-segment SUV, D-segment SUV, D-segment pickup | 1 |
| Citroen | C3, eC3, Basalt X, Aircross X, C5 Aircross | C-segment SUV, D-segment MPV, A-segment car | 4 |
The B-segment model would be, as The Hindu puts it, Jeep's first compact SUV for India. The A-segment Citroen is the other one to watch. The company says that entry car is meant to make the brand "more accessible", which suggests it will sit below the C3, though no price band has been given. The Hindu's version of Citroen's list differs, with an entry-level car, a hatchback, a large premium SUV and a large MPV, so read the brand-wise split as indicative until the cars are named.
The Sierra-based Jeep and the Gladiator question
Two cars are already doing the rounds. The first is the midsize Jeep built on Tata's ARGOS platform, the one under the Tata Sierra, which came out of the Tata-Stellantis agreement signed on 12 October. Autocar India expects it to be part of the twelve, with combustion and electric versions, in the first half of 2028. Hazela also confirmed to the magazine that an electric Jeep is being developed for India, without a timeline.
The second is the pickup. Stellantis has confirmed a premium pickup, and Autocar India says it understands this to be the Jeep Gladiator, brought in as a CKD kit like the Wrangler it shares its platform with. The magazine floats the US truck's 3.6-litre V6 petrol or the Wrangler's 2.0-litre turbo-petrol, and expects a price of around ₹70 lakh. Jeep has confirmed none of this. At over 5.5 metres, it would be bigger and far dearer than the Toyota Hilux, in a segment where the Hilux, V-Cross and Hi-Lander together sold 4,054 units in FY2026, according to Autocar Professional.
CNG, hybrids and who makes the engines
Officially, Stellantis will pick between petrol, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric segment by segment, based on affordability, regulation and charging infrastructure. Hazela was more direct with PTI: "We will be having ICE, including factory-fitted CNG, hybrid, and pure electric vehicle for sure." Autocar India says Citroen will lead the CNG work.
Hybrids are expensive to develop, Hazela told Autocar India, so Stellantis is looking at sourcing the technology through free trade agreements or partners. Asked whether it could buy powertrains from an outside supplier, he said: "It's an option which is on the table."
Local content is the other lever. Citroen's India-made cars are already at 90 to 95 percent localisation depending on the model, Hazela told PTI, while Jeep is at about 70 to 75 percent. The goal is 90 percent across both. None of this comes with a promise on prices.
What it means if you are buying now
If you are looking at a Compass or a Meridian this Diwali, nothing changes. The first new product is not due before April-June 2027, and Stellantis has not said what it is. Five of the twelve are upgrades, so some current cars will get reworked versions, but no dealer can give you a date yet. Meanwhile the current range keeps getting repriced, as Citroen's January price hike showed.
The service side may move sooner. Hazela told PTI the group has more than 300 sales and service centres, about 80 percent of which sell both brands, and Stellantis wants to reach Tier 2, 3 and 4 towns with a "Brand House" format. The stated aim is to triple domestic sales by 2030 (The Hindu reported it as tripling market share), which is a steep climb. Citroen's retail sales did rise 68 percent year on year in April-June 2026, the company said.
