Mileage
Hyundai has not yet published the certified fuel-efficiency figures. We will add the official ARAI numbers at launch.
Design
The India-spec Bayon uses Hyundai's latest 'Art of Steel' design language. Autocar India says it looks like a scaled-down version of the latest Tucson from some angles. Key elements from the reveal:
- Split headlamp setup, with slim LED DRLs on the bonnet's leading edge resembling a split 'H' motif
- Main headlamps housed in the bumper, with chunky black-and-silver cladding
- Flared wheel arches, sharp character lines and petal-style alloy wheels (17-inch according to carandbike)
- Conventional pull-type door handles and blacked-out pillars for a floating-roof look
- Slim tail-lamps in a black band, 'Bayon' lettering on the tailgate and a pronounced roof spoiler
Dimensions
Hyundai has not published official dimensions. Reports differ: Autocar India expects it to be "just a tad more than 4 metres", while carandbike describes it as over 4.2 metres. Earlier spy reports suggested around 4.18m. We will confirm this at launch.
Interior and technology
The cabin is similar to the new Brazil-spec i20. Confirmed highlights from Hyundai India:
- Dual 12.3-inch (62.5cm) curved panoramic displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment
- Generative AI voice assistant, a first for Hyundai in India, with intelligence by Perplexity and voice AI by SoundHound AI
- Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), accelerated by NVIDIA, with online navigation, split screen and quick controls
- Over-the-air updates for up to 19 controllers
- Hyundai Bluelink with 70+ connected features, including remote start/stop and smartwatch connectivity
- Multi-language interface: 10 regional plus 2 international languages
- 500+ embedded voice commands that work offline, in English, Hindi, Hinglish, Tamil, Bengali and Telugu
carandbike also reports front parking sensors and a 360-degree camera. Autocar India notes that the cabin still has plenty of physical buttons, and that the steering wheel has a separate drive-mode selector. Read more in Hyundai Bayon features and technology explained.
Variants
Hyundai has not announced the variant line-up or variant-wise features. These will be revealed at the October 26 launch.
Rivals
Hyundai positions the Bayon mainly against the Maruti Suzuki Victoris. Its wider rivals include the Maruti Grand Vitara, Tata Sierra, Renault Duster, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and, in Hyundai's own showroom, the Creta (Autocar India). See our Hyundai Bayon vs Creta vs Maruti Victoris comparison.
Bayon in India vs Bayon abroad
The Bayon has been sold in Europe since 2021 as a compact crossover. The India-spec car, developed under the codename Bc4i, keeps the name but gets a new body designed for India, a larger footprint and a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine (Autocar India). Do not rely on European specifications or reviews when researching the Indian model.
Should you book the Hyundai Bayon?
The Bayon's technology list is strong for its expected price, and the 1.5L petrol with an IVT option has proven itself in the Creta. The two open questions are price and dimensions, and both should be settled on October 26. If you are cross-shopping a base Creta, it makes sense to wait for the price announcement.
