Hyundai Motor India formally opened its second car factory on 14 October 2026, in Talegaon near Pune. The timing is neat: it is the company's 30th year in India, and a day earlier the Hyundai Motor Group had told the Prime Minister's Office it will put USD 15.5 billion into India between 2026 and 2032. If you are wondering what this means for the Hyundai you might buy, the honest answer is "not much, yet" – but the plant tells you a lot about where Hyundai is heading.
Hyundai Pune Plant: The Numbers Hyundai Confirmed
Everything in the table below comes from Hyundai's own newsroom statement of 14 October, apart from the localisation figure, which was reported by The Hindu.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Location | Talegaon, Pune, Maharashtra |
| Inaugurated | 14 October 2026, by Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis |
| Starting capacity | 170,000 vehicles a year |
| Planned capacity | 320,000 units by 2030, in phases |
| Engine shop | 150,000 engines a year |
| Investment at this plant | ₹11,000 crore, to be invested in phases |
| Model announced | All-new Hyundai Venue, for global markets only |
| Planned export markets for that Venue | More than 35 countries |
| Production technology | AI-based quality inspection, predictive maintenance, E-FOREST digital platform |
| Future flexibility | Flexible lines for internal-combustion (ICE) vehicles and, in future, hybrids |
The Hindu adds that the extra spend of ₹4,000 crore by 2030 takes the total commitment to ₹11,000 crore, and that Hyundai wants to raise localisation from 83% to 92%. Both numbers were quoted by the newspaper, not listed in the press statement.
The New Venue Connection: Read This Before Getting Excited
This is the part that is easy to misread. Hyundai says the Pune plant will build the all-new Venue "exclusively for global markets". That means the cars rolling out of Talegaon are meant for export first. Hyundai has not said where Venues sold in India will be built, and it has not named a plant for the upcoming Bayon either. So if you are booking a Venue today, nothing about your delivery changes because of this news.

The USD 15.5 Billion Plan in Plain Words
On 13 October, Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and the Group announced its seven-year India plan. Here is how Hyundai splits it.
| Area | What Hyundai says it will do |
|---|---|
| Manufacturing | Expand capacity across Hyundai Motor India and Kia India, with more localisation |
| R&D | Build a full R&D system in India; about USD 700 million planned for the R&D centre including a vehicle test track |
| Supply chain | Invest in local suppliers to raise parts localisation |
| Future mobility | Back startups; explore specialised auto finance, EV charging infrastructure and end-of-life vehicle recycling |
| Structure | A dedicated investment entity in India to run these investments |
The Group says it employs more than 24,000 people in India. Hyundai also says 55 supplier partners have already invested close to ₹4,600 crore in Maharashtra, creating more than 18,000 jobs together with tier-II vendors.
How Big Is Hyundai Group's India Footprint Now?
Add up the three plants Hyundai named and the Group crosses 1.4 million vehicles a year of installed capacity, which is the figure the company itself uses.
| Plant | Installed capacity (vehicles/year) |
|---|---|
| Hyundai Chennai | 824,000 |
| Hyundai Pune (new) | 170,000 (planned 320,000 by 2030) |
| Kia India, Anantapur | 431,000 |
| Group total | More than 1.4 million |
Hyundai also marked 4 million cumulative passenger-vehicle exports from India since 1999 and says it is the first Indian manufacturer to reach that number. Our Seltos milestone story shows how Kia's side of the group has grown.
What It Means If You Are Buying a Hyundai
Short term, nothing changes at the showroom. Medium term, three things are worth watching:
- Supply: more capacity should help the group keep up when a new model takes off. The Bayon launch on 26 October will be the next real test of how quickly Hyundai can deliver.
- Hybrids: Hyundai says the lines can support hybrids in future. It has not confirmed any hybrid model or date for India. The next-generation Creta is widely expected to add one, as covered in our Creta spy report, but that is an expectation, not an announcement.
- Localisation: higher local content can help hold prices over time, but Hyundai has not promised lower prices.
Confirmed vs Not Confirmed
| Confirmed by Hyundai | Not confirmed / TBA |
|---|---|
| Plant opened 14 Oct 2026, 170,000 units a year | Where India-spec Venue and Bayon are built |
| New Venue built here for 35+ export markets | Any new model for India from this plant |
| ₹11,000 crore planned at Pune; USD 15.5 bn Group plan | Hybrid model names and launch dates |
| Lines can support ICE and future hybrids | Any price impact for buyers |
Bottom line: this is a long-term capacity and exports story. For day-to-day buyers it matters mostly through the models Hyundai chooses to launch next, starting with the Hyundai Bayon and the next Creta.
