Renault has finally put a strong hybrid Duster on sale. It launched on 17 October 2026 at ₹16.99 lakh. That drops it straight into a fight with three hybrids that are already selling well. These are the Maruti Grand Vitara, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and the Maruti Victoris.
We put all four side by side. You can also see full prices on our Duster, Grand Vitara, Hyryder and Victoris pages. We looked at price, power, mileage and a few key features. If you want the full launch news first, read our Duster hybrid launch story. If you have already picked the Duster and only need a trim, see our Duster hybrid variant guide.
Price: who is cheapest?
All prices are ex-showroom. The Duster hybrid prices are introductory. They hold for deliveries until 31 December 2026.
| SUV | Strong hybrid variants | Price range |
|---|---|---|
| Renault Duster hybrid | Evolution, Techno, Emotion | ₹16.99 lakh to ₹19.49 lakh |
| Maruti Victoris | VXi, ZXi, ZXi (O), ZXi+, ZXi+ (O) | ₹16.43 lakh to ₹19.99 lakh |
| Maruti Grand Vitara | Delta+, Zeta+, Zeta+ (O), Alpha+, Alpha+ (O) | ₹16.68 lakh to ₹19.77 lakh |
| Toyota Hyryder | S, G (O), V | ₹17.18 lakh to ₹20.19 lakh |
So the Duster is not the cheapest way into a hybrid. The Victoris VXi costs ₹56,000 less. The Grand Vitara Delta+ costs ₹31,000 less. Only the Hyryder S costs more, by ₹19,000.
At the top end the story flips. The Duster Emotion costs ₹19.49 lakh. That is ₹50,000 less than the Victoris ZXi+ (O) and the Hyryder V. It is also ₹13,000 less than the Grand Vitara Alpha+ (O) in single tone.
Base variant face off
| Base hybrid | Price | Gap to Duster Evolution |
|---|---|---|
| Maruti Victoris VXi | ₹16.43 lakh | ₹56,000 cheaper |
| Maruti Grand Vitara Delta+ | ₹16.68 lakh | ₹31,000 cheaper |
| Renault Duster Evolution | ₹16.99 lakh | - |
| Toyota Hyryder S | ₹17.18 lakh | ₹19,000 dearer |
Engine and power
This is where the Duster stands apart. It uses a bigger 1.8 litre four cylinder petrol engine. Two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery help it. Renault rates the total output at 160 PS.
The other three share one setup. It is a 1.5 litre three cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor. Maruti and Toyota rate it at about 116 PS in total. That means the Duster has around 44 PS more.
| Spec | Duster hybrid | Grand Vitara, Hyryder, Victoris |
|---|---|---|
| Engine | 1.8 litre, 4 cylinder | 1.5 litre, 3 cylinder |
| Engine power | 110 PS | 92.45 PS |
| Engine torque | 175 Nm | 122 Nm |
| Motor torque | 208 Nm | 141 Nm |
| Total power | 160 PS | about 116 PS |
| Gearbox | Multi-mode automatic | e-CVT |
| Plug in needed | No | No |
The Duster gearbox is also different. Renault says it has two electric gears and four petrol gears. The rivals use a CVT style unit. Both kinds charge the battery on the move. None of these cars needs a charger.
Renault also gives two more claims. It says the Duster hybrid can run on electric power for up to 80 percent of city driving. It also claims 0 to 100 km/h in 9.61 seconds. These are Renault figures. No Indian road test has checked them yet.
Mileage and running cost
| SUV | Claimed mileage | Petrol cost per 1,000 km |
|---|---|---|
| Renault Duster hybrid | 29 km/l | about ₹3,450 |
| Maruti Victoris | 28.65 km/l | about ₹3,490 |
| Maruti Grand Vitara | 27.97 km/l | about ₹3,575 |
| Toyota Hyryder | 27.97 km/l | about ₹3,575 |
Renault also claims a total range of over 1,400 km on one tank. Its tank holds 50 litres. The three rivals have a 45 litre tank.
The Duster leads on paper. But look at the cost column. We used petrol at ₹100 a litre. Over 1,000 km the gap is only about ₹125. You should not pick one of these on mileage alone. Real figures in traffic will also differ from these lab claims.
Size and space
| Size | Duster hybrid | Grand Vitara | Hyryder | Victoris |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Length | 4,346 mm | 4,345 mm | 4,365 mm | 4,360 mm |
| Width | 1,815 mm | 1,795 mm | 1,795 mm | 1,795 mm |
| Height | 1,694 mm | 1,645 mm | 1,645 mm | 1,655 mm |
| Wheelbase | 2,657 mm | 2,600 mm | 2,600 mm | 2,600 mm |
| Ground clearance | 212 mm | 210 mm | Not listed | 210 mm |
| Fuel tank | 50 litres | 45 litres | 45 litres | 45 litres |
| Wheels | 18 inch | 17 inch | 17 inch | 17 inch |
The Duster is the widest and tallest here. It also has the longest wheelbase, by 57 mm. That should mean more room in the back. Renault lists the boot at about 372 litres up to the parcel shelf. Autocar India estimates the Victoris hybrid boot at under 300 litres, because the battery sits under the floor.
Safety and features
| Check | Duster hybrid | Grand Vitara | Hyryder | Victoris |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Airbags | 6 | 6 | 6 | 6 |
| Bharat NCAP | 5 stars (Duster, April 2026) | Not tested yet | Not tested yet | 5 stars (strong hybrid tested) |
| Level 2 ADAS | No | No | No | Yes, top trims |

| Panoramic sunroof | Yes, Techno up | Zeta+ (O), Alpha+ (O) | V | ZXi (O), ZXi+ (O) |

The Duster scored 5 stars in the Bharat NCAP crash test in April 2026. Renault has not said whether a hybrid car was tested on its own. The Victoris also has 5 stars. Bharat NCAP tested its ZXi+ and ZXi+ (O) strong hybrids in 2025. It scored 31.66 out of 32 for adults and 43 out of 49 for children. The Grand Vitara and Hyryder have no Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP rating yet.
There is one clear gap. Autocar India reports that the Duster hybrid misses Level 2 ADAS and the 360 degree camera. The turbo petrol Duster Iconic gets both. If driver aids matter to you, the Victoris is the only hybrid here with Level 2 ADAS.
Which one should you buy?
| If you are | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| On the lowest budget | Victoris VXi | Cheapest hybrid here at ₹16.43 lakh |
| A highway driver | Duster hybrid | 160 PS, 18 inch wheels, 1,400 km claimed range |
| A big family | Duster hybrid | Widest cabin, longest wheelbase, bigger boot |
| Keen on safety tech | Victoris ZXi+ (O) | Only one with Level 2 ADAS |
| After proven tech | Grand Vitara or Hyryder | This hybrid has been sold in India since 2022 |
| Buying a top variant | Duster Emotion | Cheapest top trim at ₹19.49 lakh |
Our view
If you want the lowest price, the Victoris VXi wins. If you want the most power for your money, the Duster is in a class of its own here. It has 160 PS and a bigger engine. And at the top end it is the cheapest of the four.
The Grand Vitara and Hyryder are the safe picks. Their hybrid system has been on sale in India for years. The Duster hybrid is brand new, so we will wait for real world tests. Still, it gives buyers a strong new choice. Take a test drive of at least two before you decide.
Media reports say Duster hybrid deliveries start on 6 November 2026. Renault has not confirmed the date in a press release yet.
Remember the deadline too. Renault's prices are introductory. They apply to deliveries until 31 December 2026.
