Battery, Performance and Range

The EX90 has a 106 kWh lithium-ion battery that powers two electric motors, one on each axle. Together they make 335 kW (456 hp) and 670 Nm. Volvo claims 0–100 km/h in 5.5 seconds, and top speed is limited to 180 km/h. That is quick for an SUV more than five metres long.

Volvo quotes a projected WLTP range of up to 625 km. The Indian ICAT test gives a higher figure of up to 725 km. Treat these as lab numbers. In Autocar India's review, the EX90 returned about 5.5 km/kWh, or roughly 580 km in real-world driving.

Charging: 800V Architecture

The EX90 is built on Volvo's SPA2 platform with an 800-volt electrical architecture. It accepts DC fast charging at up to 350 kW, and Volvo says a 10–80% charge takes about 22 minutes on a suitable charger. Few public chargers in India can deliver 350 kW yet, so charging times will depend on the station. At home, the bundled 11 kW AC wall box is the practical option. A full AC charge takes several hours, so overnight charging makes the most sense.

Interior, Seating and Technology

The India-spec EX90 comes only as a six-seater. Its second-row captain's chairs slide and recline. According to Autocar India, these seats don't get electric adjustment, ventilation, heating or massage. The front seats do get all four. There are no rear window sunshades either, but a large panoramic sunroof with switchable transparency is standard.

As Volvo's first software-defined vehicle in India, the EX90 is designed to keep improving through software updates. That is a big step up from the XC90, whose current generation is more than a decade old.

Safety and Driver Assistance

Safety has long been Volvo's strength, and the EX90 continues that. According to the company, its sensors include 5 cameras, 5 radars and 12 ultrasonic sensors. Features include:

  • A 360-degree camera with 3D view
  • Pilot Assist and adaptive cruise control
  • Occupant sensing technology
  • Collision avoidance systems

Dimensions

Reported figures put the EX90 at 5,037 mm long, 1,964 mm wide (without mirrors) and 1,744 mm tall, with a 2,985 mm wheelbase. That makes it a large three-row SUV, close in size to its main German rivals.

Volvo EX90 vs Rivals

Model Price (ex-showroom)
Volvo EX90 Twin Motor Ultra ₹1.26 crore
Kia EV9 ₹1.30 crore
Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 580 ₹1.49 crore

At ₹1.26 crore, the EX90 costs less than both of its main rivals: ₹4 lakh less than the Kia EV9 and ₹23 lakh less than the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 580. With the free charger, service package and buyback offer, it is one of the best-value luxury electric SUVs in India right now, as long as you book before the introductory offer ends.

Should You Wait for the Volvo EX90?

If you want a quiet, safe, tech-heavy six-seat electric SUV, the EX90 is one of the strongest options under ₹1.5 crore. Its range is long enough for intercity trips and it charges fast. The six-seat-only layout and the plainer second row are the main compromises. Since deliveries start only in January 2027, booking before 31 December 2026 locks in the introductory price and the extra benefits. Test drives open in November, so you can try it before deciding.
