What goes into the on-road price
- Ex-showroom price: includes GST and is the same across most of India.
- Road tax and registration (RTO): the biggest variable. Each state sets its own rate, usually as a percentage of the ex-showroom price, and some states use different rates for petrol and diesel or for different price bands.
- Insurance: a first-year comprehensive policy plus long-term third-party cover. You can often save money by comparing quotes instead of taking the dealer's policy.
- Others: FASTag, number plates and sometimes handling or logistics charges. You can ask the dealer to show these as separate line items.
How your city changes the price
Delhi is one of the cheaper places to register a car.
