Mahindra has added a fourth powertrain to its best-selling compact SUV. The Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG, badged XUV 3XO ZNG, was launched on October 15, 2026 at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It joins the existing petrol, diesel and electric versions, so the XUV 3XO has one of the widest powertrain line-ups in the sub-4-metre SUV segment. See our complete XUV 3XO guide for the full price list of the petrol and diesel versions. Only the Tata Nexon offers as many fuel options.

This guide was updated on October 15, 2026 with Mahindra's official launch figures. Anything Mahindra has not announced is labelled TBA.

Why the XUV 3XO CNG matters

CNG is very popular among hatchbacks and sedans in India, but factory-fitted CNG compact SUVs are still rare. According to Autocar India, the XUV 3XO is only the third compact SUV with a CNG option, after the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Tata Nexon.

It is also a first for Mahindra. The brand has offered CNG on some commercial pickups, and its older Logan and Verito sedans had conversion kits. The XUV 3XO CNG is the first factory-fitted CNG model in Mahindra's current passenger-vehicle line-up, and Mahindra calls it its first mainstream CNG passenger vehicle. That puts Mahindra alongside Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata, Kia and Toyota, which already sell factory CNG cars in India.

XUV 3XO CNG launch date

Mahindra launched the XUV 3XO CNG (ZNG) on October 15, 2026 in Mumbai, and test drives began the same day. Bookings and deliveries start on October 20, 2026 at authorised dealerships and online at auto.mahindra.com. See our detailed XUV 3XO CNG price, launch date and bookings story for the timeline.

XUV 3XO CNG price in India

Mahindra has announced four variants priced from Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 12.27 lakh (ex-showroom). For reference, the petrol XUV 3XO range costs Rs 7.79 lakh to Rs 15.04 lakh (Autocar India). On matching trims the CNG costs about Rs 90,000 more than the petrol (REVX EDGE (O) petrol manual Rs 9.89 lakh; AX5 petrol manual Rs 10.30 lakh).

Variant Ex-showroom price
MX Edge ZNG Rs 9.99 lakh
REVX Edge (O) ZNG Rs 10.79 lakh
AX5 ZNG Rs 11.19 lakh
REVX A ZNG Rs 12.27 lakh

Engine and performance

Mahindra pairs the CNG kit with the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder mStallion turbo-petrol engine with multi-point fuel injection (TCMPFi). It produces 82 kW (about 110 bhp) and 200Nm in both CNG and petrol modes (Autocar India's launch report quotes 111hp and 200Nm).

MPFI engines inject fuel into the intake manifold, so they are cheaper and simpler to adapt for CNG than direct-injection engines. That is why the 131hp/230Nm 1.2-litre TGDi engine does not get CNG. Mahindra says a revised turbocharger calibration and ECU mapping keep power and torque the same on CNG as on petrol, with a 10-bar CNG injection system that it calls a segment first. It also claims 0-60 km/h in 4.9 seconds and 0-100 km/h in 11.8 seconds in CNG mode.

Specification XUV 3XO CNG (ZNG)
Engine 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo-petrol, TCMPFi
CNG-mode output 82 kW (about 110 bhp) / 200Nm (same as petrol mode)
Transmission 6-speed manual only
CNG tank type/position Twin cylinders under the luggage floor; 60 litres water equivalent
Certified efficiency (km/kg) 24.7 km/kg (claimed)
Boot space 270 litres (ISO V215)

The ZNG is offered only with a 6-speed manual, and Mahindra has not announced an automatic CNG version. The petrol MPFI engine, by contrast, also comes with a 6-speed automatic. For a full breakdown, read XUV 3XO CNG engine, specs and mileage.

Mileage

Mahindra quotes a certified efficiency of 24.7 km/kg in CNG mode. Real-world mileage depends on traffic, load and driving style, and independent test figures are not out yet. The car switches to petrol automatically when CNG runs low, and the display shows average and instant fuel economy.

Design: what changes on the ZNG

Mahindra says the design is unchanged apart from ZNG badging on the tailgate, as Autocar India also notes. Depending on the variant, the ZNG gets:

  • A body-coloured or gunmetal-grey grille (gunmetal only on Stealth Black)
  • A dual-tone roof and roof rails
  • R16 steel wheels with covers, diamond-cut alloys or painted black alloys
  • Full-width connected LED tail-lamps on the higher trims

Interior and features

Mahindra lists a panoramic Skyroof on the REVX Edge (O) and REVX A, twin 26.03 cm screens (touchscreen and digital cluster) on the AX5 and above, Dolby Atmos on the REVX A, and black leatherette seats on the REVX Edge (O) and REVX A. Even the entry MX Edge gets a 26.03 cm touchscreen, cruise control, rear AC vents and a 60:40 split rear seat. Every variant has six airbags, ESC and ISOFIX. Our XUV 3XO CNG variants and features article lists each trim.

XUV 3XO CNG variants

Mahindra has launched four variants: MX Edge (Rs 9.99 lakh), REVX Edge (O) (Rs 10.79 lakh), AX5 (Rs 11.19 lakh) and REVX A (Rs 12.27 lakh). The pre-launch report of REVX M and AX5 did not match the final line-up: the REVX M is not offered with CNG.

Boot space and CNG tank

Boot space matters to CNG buyers because a traditional cylinder takes up most of the boot. Mahindra uses a twin-cylinder layout beneath the luggage area, with 60 litres (water equivalent) of CNG capacity in total. That keeps a flat loading floor and gives 270 litres of boot space (ISO V215), with the spare wheel mounted under the body. The regular XUV 3XO has 364 litres on the same basis. The Tata Nexon CNG claims 321 litres and the Brezza CNG 328 litres (Autocar India).

Rivals

The XUV 3XO CNG will compete mainly with:

  • Tata Nexon CNG, the only other turbo-petrol CNG compact SUV
  • Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG, with a naturally aspirated petrol-CNG engine

Its wider competition includes the Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet, though neither currently offers a factory CNG option in the compact SUV segment. Read our XUV 3XO CNG vs Nexon CNG vs Brezza CNG for how they compare.

Should you buy the XUV 3XO CNG?

If you drive a lot and want an SUV with low running costs, the ZNG is now on sale, with bookings from October 20. Two things decide whether it makes sense for you:

  1. Price premium versus fuel savings. About Rs 90,000 more than the matching petrol trims. How quickly you recover that depends on how many kilometres you drive each month.
  2. Boot space. At 270 litres it is smaller than the Nexon CNG and Brezza CNG, so check it against your luggage.
