Safety is one of the main reasons people buy the XUV 3XO. It has a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating for both adults and children, a strong list of standard safety features, and Level 2 ADAS on the top variant. Here is a full breakdown. For the rest of the car, see the XUV 3XO complete guide.
Bharat NCAP result
| Category | Score | Stars |
|---|---|---|
| Adult Occupant Protection | 29.36 / 32 | 5 |
| Child Occupant Protection | 43.00 / 49 | 5 |
Bharat NCAP tested the AX7 L and the MX2 in 2024. Its fact sheet lists ESC, curtain airbags, pedestrian protection and seat-belt reminders as standard across all variants, and it says the rating applies to the petrol and diesel variants listed in its annexure. The XUV 3XO CNG (ZNG), launched on October 15, has not been separately rated by Bharat NCAP. Mahindra says it is engineered for a 5-star rating on the same XUV 3XO and gives every variant six airbags, ESC and ISOFIX as standard.
Standard safety on every XUV 3XO
- Six airbags
- Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
- Disc brakes on all four wheels
- ISOFIX child-seat mounts
- Three-point seat belts and reminders for all passengers
- Reverse parking sensors
Mahindra says the REVX EDGE trims come with 35 standard safety features.
Higher-variant safety tech
- 360-degree camera on the top trims, according to Mahindra's brochure
- Tyre pressure monitoring, also listed in the brochure
- Level 2 ADAS on the AX7 L
What Level 2 ADAS does
ADAS uses a camera and radar to help the driver. In general, a Level 2 system offers adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking. Exact functions can vary, so check the latest XUV 3XO brochure for the full list. These systems work best on well-marked highways and can be less consistent in mixed Indian traffic. They assist the driver and do not replace an attentive one.
How it compares
The Nexon, Brezza and Kylaq also have 5-star Bharat NCAP ratings, so the 3XO is in good company. Where it stands out is all-disc brakes from the base variant and ADAS availability. Read XUV 3XO vs Venue vs Sonet vs Kylaq and XUV 3XO vs Nexon.
Which variant for safety-focused buyers?
Every variant gives you the core crash protection. If you want ADAS and the 360-degree camera, go for the AX7 L. If you only want strong passive safety on a budget, the REVX EDGE is a good choice. Our variants guide explains the rest, and the product page lists features by variant.
What the Bharat NCAP scores mean
Bharat NCAP crashes cars in frontal offset and side impacts, runs a side pole test, and checks child seats and safety equipment. A score of 29.36 out of 32 for adults means the cabin stayed stable and the dummies' readings were good in most areas. For children, 43 out of 49 reflects both the dynamic test results and how child seats fit and are installed.
Using ADAS safely
- Keep the windscreen camera area and the radar sensor clean.
- Keep your hands on the wheel. Lane-keeping is an assist, not autopilot.
- Adaptive cruise can brake late for vehicles that cut in suddenly, so stay alert.
- Turn off lane assists on roads with faded markings if they become intrusive.
Child safety tips
Use the ISOFIX mounts with a properly rated child seat, never put a rear-facing child seat in front of an active airbag, and make sure every passenger wears a seat belt. All seats in the 3XO have three-point belts with reminders.
